Overview

In the ongoing debates over contemporary education policy, questions regarding different conceptions of human nature are ignored or assumed to be irrelevant. However, a proper education seeks to discover what man is and what he ought to be. Human nature, properly understood, should inform education policy, which in turn makes larger societal or political goals possible to achieve.

Jon M. Fennell is Dean of Social Sciences and Director and Professor of Teacher Education at Hillsdale College. He holds a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of California, Davis, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana. Before coming to Hillsdale he was an adjunct instructor at Boise State University (1979, 1981-84) and an adjunct instructor at North Central College (2001).
