Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the most common questions about Hillsdale's Online Courses. Additional questions may be submitted to onlinecourses@hillsdale.edu.

Q:  Is there any cost to register for these online courses?
A:  No.  All of the course materials are provided online, including the reading selections.  A donation is suggested but not required to register for or participate in the course.

Q:  Is there a certain time I have to register for and participate in the courses?
A:  No, you may begin anytime.  Once new material is released each week (according to the schedule), it is archived and available to view at your convenience.

Q:  Do I need to complete the course by a certain date or time?
A:  No.  There are no set deadlines to complete the course material.  You may work at your own pace.

Q:  Do you offer college credit or continuing education credit?
A:  No. If you complete the Final Quiz for each course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion, but this does not constitute any sort of official transcript, or make you eligible for any type of credit.

Q:  What grade level are the courses appropriate for?
A:  These courses are best suited for those of a high school grade level and above.

Q:  Are the courses available on DVD or CD?
A:  No, we do not offer these courses on DVD or CD.

Q:  Are there transcripts of the lectures available for purchase or download?
A:  No, we do not offer transcripts of the lectures.

Q:  Can the lectures be downloaded?
A:  The lecture videos are streamed through YouTube and are not available for download.  An audio-only version of each lecture is available for download via links on the Course Menu page.

Q:  How can I make a donation without signing up for the course?
A:  Information on how to make a donation can be found here:   https://online.hillsdale.edu/support

Q:  How long are the lectures?
A:  Each lecture is approximately 40 minutes in length.

Q:  What time are the lectures?  What happens if I miss a lecture or session?
A:  Each lecture is pre-recorded.  After the material has been released each week (according to the schedule), it is available to view at your convenience.

Q:  Can I watch a lecture more than once?
A:  Yes.  You may view the lecture as often as you like.

Q:  What is my Username or User ID?
A:  Your User ID is the email address you provided with your registration information.

Q:  How do I change my password?
A:  Login at https://online.hillsdale.edu/login  and click on the red “My Profile” tab.  Enter the new password in both boxes then click “Update”.  On the next screen you will need to confirm the change by entering your old password.

Q:  I’ve forgotten my password.  How do I retrieve it?
A:  On the login page, click on the link “Forgot your password or User ID?”  Enter your email address and Submit.  A password reset link will be emailed to you.  This link is active for 24 hours.

Q:  Do you share personal or contact information?

Q:  Why won’t the lecture videos play?
A:  The lecture videos are streamed through YouTube.  Check to see if your system is configured to view YouTube videos.

Q:  How long will the courses be available?
A:  These courses will remain archived and available at your convenience for the foreseeable future.

Q:  Can you register multiple people using one email address?
A:  No.  Only one person’s name and information may be connected to a single email address.
